Have you noticed a change in mainstream cultural values especially regarding the way people treat others? You may wonder what happened to kindness, caring and respect? Have you sensed a growing acceptance of rudeness and disrespect as being okay? Somehow we have forgotten how to be nice....

My backyard could entertain a series on Animal Planet. The snow that fell a few days ago is crisscrossed with the footprints of coyotes, rabbits, foxes, raccoon, deer, a couple of hawks, dogs, cats, a human or two and assorted other smaller creatures. The major draw for the scavengers is a large raccoon carcass deposited on the snow by a coyote. Apparently, it is too heavy to take back to the den. I think about removing it, but watching the procession of wildlife taking a share of the feast is provocative...... Balance….Peace…I have been reflecting on both of these words with the Equinox on the 23rd and not coincidentally the International day of Peace just days prior on the 21st. Early this morning the balance point between the hours of sunlight shining on the earth and the hours of darkness heralding the change to spring in the southern hemisphere and autumn in the northern hemisphere occurred.... My brother loves cars, Classic Cars, especially Chevy’s. The kind of car that defines “Cool.” There is nothing more stylish than a cool classic 1955 Chevy BelAir with two-tone paint and detailed polished chrome, leather bench seats modified with a sizzling hot engine made for cruisin’ and drag racing. Since Drake was a wee lad, mechanical vehicles with powerful engines fascinated him. His first foray at driving was sitting high up on Papa Louis’ lap at the wheel of the farm tractor. He was probably 3 or 4 years old at the time and he’s been driving ever since.... Darkness simultaneously has the ability to bring up primal fear within you as well as induce an attraction for the unknown and unseen. You use this energy to either back away from it or face it. Fear provides you an opportunity to seek what has been hidden from view. Yet, there is more than the motivation of fear that draws you into uncharted territory.... An Opening It looks to me as though the 'Chaos state' that we have been experiencing within us and within our culture is giving way to the 'centrifugal' part of the process. All of the structural patterns are mixed up, thrown in the air and are now becoming untangled. The stuff that needs to drop out is being expelled. Sometimes, it feels good when it leaves and other times it feels like an explosion. Some of what remains is still in chaos without any clear pattern and yet some parts are now free and hanging in mid-air. It feels freer. Using Scott Peck's model of four stages of community formation, the second stage of chaos moves into the third stage, emptiness. The parts of us that are hanging in the emptiness are the ones, which bring those big 'Ah Hah' insights and revelations. We see more of who we are. Even though there is still more to sort out and untangle, there is a feeling of the emptiness and a feeling of relief. We are getting there. Within it all is the anticipation for the strands to reconfigure into new patterns that serve humanity and us. The new model emerging is one of allowance in a way we have not experienced before for ourselves and for others. It brings us into the rhythm of cycles and Peck's fourth stage of community formation, Communion and Unity..... |
