Gilded flicker woodpeckers are more sedately concentrating on collecting fallen elderberries while a nearby gray dove does the same. The blue jays must be on the same wavelength as the finches for they are chasing one another between snatching berries from the hawthorn, elderberry and pyracantha. Why limit your diet? It is a veritable feast out there as plants distill their final burst of energy into pushing out as much progeny in the form of seeds as possible. There is more than enough for all and every species is partying together and sharing a good time. Perhaps a lesson for us humans.
While the world of humans concerns itself with politics, business, war, tragedy, sports and celebrity gossip, nature flourishes. This morning while sipping my morning chai, my cat and I gaze out into the backyard and quietly observe birds of every kind diving from tree to tree plucking berries and seeds from the trees and shrubs. A charm of house finches flit between the Autumn purple ash, pyracantha shrub and one finch couple’s birdhouse. Slight movements by one and all of them take off in a sweeping fan momentarily landing on a new perch until one of them jumps onto a branch of a mate and teases it. A game of tag ensues and the whole tree is in motion with flight. In between their raucous play, they happily eat the plump pyracantha berries. These berries are known to give birds a buzz. Looks as though it has a bigger kick than my chai!

"A lamb, really, a lamb, that's my ego?" This thought washes over me as the image of a fluffy lamb appears beneath my closed eyes when the dream instructor asks, "What is the image of your ego?" Annoyed, I proceed with her next directive, which is to talk to my ego and tell it something. Inwardly, I exclaim, "Would you be more strong and assertive?" Immediately, the now spunky lamb jumps in the air, clicks its black hooves together and lands firmly with a determined look. I cannot help but laugh and my heart softens, "Yes, you are stronger than you appear." As other dream participants talk about their wild monstrous ego images, I feel grateful that I do not have to work at Taming my Lamb.... An Opening It looks to me as though the 'Chaos state' that we have been experiencing within us and within our culture is giving way to the 'centrifugal' part of the process. All of the structural patterns are mixed up, thrown in the air and are now becoming untangled. The stuff that needs to drop out is being expelled. Sometimes, it feels good when it leaves and other times it feels like an explosion. Some of what remains is still in chaos without any clear pattern and yet some parts are now free and hanging in mid-air. It feels freer. Using Scott Peck's model of four stages of community formation, the second stage of chaos moves into the third stage, emptiness. The parts of us that are hanging in the emptiness are the ones, which bring those big 'Ah Hah' insights and revelations. We see more of who we are. Even though there is still more to sort out and untangle, there is a feeling of the emptiness and a feeling of relief. We are getting there. Within it all is the anticipation for the strands to reconfigure into new patterns that serve humanity and us. The new model emerging is one of allowance in a way we have not experienced before for ourselves and for others. It brings us into the rhythm of cycles and Peck's fourth stage of community formation, Communion and Unity..... |
