In an attempt to grab and keep your attention the headlines sensationalize the latest traumatic event in order to provoke a heightened emotional response. Your brain is geared to being alert to threats to your safety. Even hearing and imagining worrisome, shocking or disturbing events causes stress hormones to stream into your body. When you watch repeated startling images it can invoke a posttraumatic stress response. Your body does not know the difference between an event you are watching or imagining happening and actually experiencing it.....

![]() The shut down of the world came as a surprise. Did you even imagine that it would be possible for nearly 7 billion people to stop their ‘normal’ activities and go into seclusion? In my part of the world the retreat began in March. I was suddenly thrust into an alternate reality. But it took time for me to comprehend the change.... ![]() What we are experiencing on the planet is unprecedented. Never before have we had the magnitude of global interconnection and communication during a crisis that affects every human being, as we are experiencing in this moment. Much of humanity is focused on the media, the daily changes in life and the effect it is having on distant parts of the globe as the Covid-19 virus circulates around the world. Where is your focus and attention going? You don’t need to listen to the news to know something remarkably uncommon is occurring.... ![]() Daily, you are being bombarded with news of disasters, endless tragedies, and destructive and dehumanizing behaviors causing you to be more aware than ever of the Chaos happening in the world. These random and outrageous events affect your sense of stability and security and may leave you feeling confused, disturbed, helpless and frightened especially when those unpredictable events cause death and destruction. You are connected in a way that you never have been before. Instant news and the Internet have created a dense enmeshed information web that envelops the globe. In any moment you can hear about a catastrophe at the farthest outpost on Earth. Your body knows even before your mind. You are feeling it energetically. You are connected through more than just the wireless radio waves that carry information. You are a cell in the body of humanity. Whether you like it or not, you are in a constant reciprocal flow with the human electromagnetic field coursing through your heart and processed through your body and brain.... ![]() You have been told stories about your emotions that are not true. When it strikes, it zaps you with an instantaneous jolt of alarm so powerful that nothing else registers but the feeling of sheer panic. Your body screams, “I could die, I could be harmed, I am in danger.” All of your senses and bodily functions are corralled into doing just one thing….to get you away from whatever is the source of danger. With lightning speed Fear propels you towards Safety. It is the body’s most protective emotion..... ![]() Spring awakens us with glorious light. Even the sound and feeling sense of the word creates images of buoyancy. It inspires newness and a fresh start. My first view out of my window this morning was the sight of a rabbit hopping among the flowers. The symbol of rabbit is quintessentially the essence of spring in so many ways. Of course, there is the connotation with the religious celebration of Easter with images of children gathering the eggs the Easter bunny has brought. Eggs symbolize new life, creativity, new beginnings and the seed of new ideas. Since ancient times the rabbit has been the harbinger of spring, well known for their prolific progeny and tremendous growth of new life. Spring brings a creative outpouring of ideas, possibility, and hope. The incredible ‘push’ of this energy is at first disconcerting and can even be downright uncomfortable and confusing. You may feel as though you are being pulled in many directions... ![]() Stressed and can't stop feeling anxious? You just want relief. We have all experienced life situations that induce prolonged anxiety. Relationship problems, financial or health issues, worrying about the future and traumas are some of the culprits. Yet, before tackling the underlying cause of our anxiety and stress what we need in the moment is relief. Thankfully, relief is possible... |
