Have you noticed a change in mainstream cultural values especially regarding the way people treat others? You may wonder what happened to kindness, caring and respect? Have you sensed a growing acceptance of rudeness and disrespect as being okay? Somehow we have forgotten how to be nice.... Opening into Compassionate Presence Last year of 2015 was the Chinese year of the Wood Sheep (Ram) where new possibilities, hopes and dreams were gestating. It was also a time of cleansing, releasing and facing difficult truths in order to form new patterns of connection. As you enter the Red Fire Monkey on Feb. 8, 2016, you step into a fresh opening where new aspects of yourself are birthing and developing a healthier connection to yourself and others. Monkeys are inquisitive, quick, adaptable, intelligent, inventive and versatile; monkeys always keep you on your toes. It will be an adventurous fiery year of unpredictability. Monkeys are known to hop from one activity to another, so it is wise to observe what you really care about and what brings you and others love, joy and connection. There will be plenty of creative opportunities opening up. The key is to walk into the year with compassion for your vulnerabilities as well as your abilities... Conscious Companionship As the consciousness of humanity evolves and changes so has the structure of marriage, partnership and relationships. We are in a transitional stage of relationship moving away from the concept of two independent autonomous people cohabiting together and attempting to get their individual needs met in a hierarchical structure with fixed roles. A companionship model of conscious partnership consisting of mutual interdependence, interpersonal relating, intimacy, equity and commitment to placing the relationship first while aligning with what is best for each other is arising. The focus away from a singular insular preoccupation with self and my needs to what are the needs of the relationship is a step towards greater love, compatibility, understanding, intimacy, and surprisingly getting more of your needs met.... Darkness simultaneously has the ability to bring up primal fear within you as well as induce an attraction for the unknown and unseen. It is almost as if your fear beckons you to look beyond as a way to keep you safe. Whenever you feel vulnerable, energy arises to help you overcome fear. You use this energy to either back away from it or face it. Fear provides you an opportunity to seek what has been hidden from view. Yet, there is more than the motivation of fear that draws you into uncharted territory.... Does your inner voice judge you or demean you? Is a critical voice telling you what you “should” or “should not” do or experience? Do you have a feeling that somehow you are not enough or do not matter? At first, your Inner Critic may wake you up and try to get your attention; “better work on that project, get going, you are going to be late, quit procrastinating, you made a mistake, be responsible, exercise, eat healthier.” It informs and jars you into action. It can be helpful, nudging and prodding you into beneficial behaviors. If you haven’t paid attention, it often turns ugly and begins to berate you. It says mean things about your character; “you are lazy, stupid, ugly, irresponsible, wrong, weak, no good, damaged, you can’t do anything right, nobody will ever want to be with you and you will never amount to anything.” Those may be mild words compared with your critic... Spring awakens us with glorious light. Even the sound and feeling sense of the word creates images of buoyancy. It inspires newness and a fresh start. My first view out of my window this morning was the sight of a rabbit hopping among the flowers. The symbol of rabbit is quintessentially the essence of spring in so many ways. Of course, there is the connotation with the religious celebration of Easter with images of children gathering the eggs the Easter bunny has brought. Eggs symbolize new life, creativity, new beginnings and the seed of new ideas. Since ancient times the rabbit has been the harbinger of spring, well known for their prolific progeny and tremendous growth of new life. Spring brings a creative outpouring of ideas, possibility, and hope. The incredible ‘push’ of this energy is at first disconcerting and can even be downright uncomfortable and confusing. You may feel as though you are being pulled in many directions... |
